Tiger Woods misses Masters after ‘staying out for treatment’ on drunk driving charge after car accident | golf news

Tiger Woods will miss the Masters after deciding to take a break from golf following a car accident, Augusta National chairman Fred Ridley has confirmed.

Woods said Tuesday that he had “taken away a period of time” to “receive treatment” following an incident last Friday in Florida in which he was charged with drunken driving.

He pleaded not guilty but admitted to looking at his phone just before the accident.

The 15-time major champion and five-time winner of the Masters, most recently in 2019, has not said definitively that he will sit out the first major of the season from April 9-12, live on Sky Sports.

But Ridley later said in a statement: “Augusta National Golf Club and the Masters Tournament fully support Tiger Woods’ focus on his well-being.”

Take a look back at the highlights of Tiger Woods’ historic five wins at Augusta National.

“Tiger won’t be joining us in person next week, but his presence will be felt here in Augusta.”

Even though he didn’t play at Georgia, Woods was scheduled to attend Sunday’s event to celebrate the opening of The Patch, a municipal course he helped design last August.

The 50-year-old was also expected to attend the Champions Dinner on April 7, where he will be treated this year by Rory McIlroy after he completes the career Grand Slam by winning in 2025.

Sheriff John Budensiek confirmed on March 27 that Tiger Woods was arrested and charged with drunken driving after his vehicle was involved in a crash.

Woods missed Augusta last year due to injury and has not played in an outdoor tournament since missing the cut at the 2024 Open Championship.

His first action in 13 months back at Jupiter Links Golf Club against Los Angeles in the TGL final in late March raised hopes that he could tee it up at the Masters, but those are now over.
