Extensively drug-resistant shigellosis infections are on the rise, according to a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The study, published in CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, covered samples of Shigella infections from 2011 to 2023. Shigella is spread through contaminated food or drink, or through person-to-person contact.
