MSC Cruises is expanding its private island footprint in the Bahamas with a new luxury destination. sandy kScheduled to open in 2028, adjacent to existing facility Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve.
This announcement comes as MSC continues to make deeper inroads into the Caribbean market, which began in earnest with the launch of MSC World America last year.
MSC will also move another major ship, the World Europa, to the Caribbean next year.
The new island is positioned as a low-density, nature-focused complement to Ocean Cay, with a design focused on direct access to the coastline and surrounding waters. MSC said the experience will prioritize a quieter environment and closer connection to the marine environment.
Full details about the layout, capacity and amenities have not yet been released. The initial direction points to experiences built around swimming, snorkeling and time on the beach, with less large-scale structures and more focus on the natural environment.
Rather than replacing Ocean Cay, Sandy Cay will operate alongside Ocean Cay, giving MSC two unique private island experiences within the same destination area.
Other private destinations on MSC
MSC’s private destination portfolio currently consists of: Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve It is located in the Bahamas, south of Bimini. The island has eight beaches with varying exposure to the sun and wind, a beachfront dining pavilion, several bars and an evening program that includes a lighthouse light display. The destination was developed as part of a wider environmental restoration effort, with coral and marine habitat projects underway in the surrounding waters.
Outside the Caribbean, MSC may also call the following customers: Lord Bani Yas Island Some itineraries include travel in the United Arab Emirates. The destination combines a private beach area for cruise guests with a wildlife sanctuary offering guided tours.
