Bromley 0 – 0 Cambridge U

Bromley’s promotion to League One was delayed once again as Cambridge United were held to a goalless draw at Hayes Lane.

The U’s should have scored within the opening 15 minutes. Ben Knight fired wide of Grant Smith’s post before Dominic Ball did the same and fired inches wide from Liam Bennett’s cut-back.

It took Bromley 25 minutes to score their first goal. Omar Sownunmi’s header went over the crossbar and was beaten by goalkeeper Jack Walton.

Bromley manager Andy Woodman remained optimistic after his side’s promotion celebrations were put on hold following a 0-0 draw with Cambridge.

Cambridge scored another goal in the 30th minute when Shayne Lavery sent a header over the bar from Adam Mayor’s cross.

It took a while for the second half to come to life, but Knight’s fierce angled drive denied Grant Smith, prompting a sharp response.

That roused the hosts and Ben Thompson saw Walton’s try from close range before Jude Arthurs’ follow-up chance was deflected wide.

With 10 minutes remaining, Smith brilliantly deflected Kelland Watts’ header but despite Bromley’s late goalmouth scramble, neither side could find a way through.
