Royal Caribbean’s sea legend has just reached its sea trials with a summer debut on longer sailings, CocoCay stops and taps.

The next chapter of the Royal Caribbean icon class is now underway in the Baltic Sea. legend of the sea It has left the Mayer Turku shipyard in Finland for the first time, Caribbean Journal reports, as it begins sea trials that will push the nearly complete vessel into real-world conditions.

The vessel’s movement through open water, propulsion systems and onboard technology are currently being assessed as it logs miles across the region, a critical step prior to delivery.

Over the next 10 days, more than 2,000 engineers, naval architects and specialists will be on board to conduct full testing. The program covers everything from maneuverability and navigation to engine power in stressful situations. By the time the ship returns to Turku, it will have traveled approximately 2,400 nautical miles with data collected from all major systems.

Inside the last stretch before debut

Sea trials are one of the final major construction stages of all cruise ships and ships. icon classThe stakes are much higher. This is Royal Caribbean’s most ambitious platform to date, first introduced as Icon of the Seas and expanded into Star of the Seas. Legend becomes the third installment in the series and continues the design approach focused on dividing the ship into distinct “neighborhoods” with their own unique atmosphere, locations and programming.

Returning to the shipyard after testing, crews will complete finishing touches throughout the interior, public areas and technical systems. This includes final installation, details and regulatory approvals required before the vessel is officially handed over to the cruise line.

The schedule is tight but clear. Debut in July 2026 It’s already on the books and the ship is tracking towards launch.

What to Find onboard

Legends of the Sea is designed around: eight different neighborhoodsis the signature of the Icon class, which organizes the ship into separate zones with different purposes and energy levels. The concept targets a wide range of travelers, from families traveling together to couples and multi-generational groups, with activities and accommodations designed to support different types of travel within the same sailing.

From Europe to the Caribbean

The first season of Legend will launch in Europe and will run over the summer following its debut. The initial deployment contrasts with long-term planning by placing ships in areas known for port-intensive schedules.

After the first season, the ship will be relocated to the next location. Fort Lauderdale, FloridaSet for Caribbean homeport in late 2026. From there, Legend will run the following combinations: 6-night Western Caribbean itinerary and 8-night Southern Caribbean sailing.

These routes are expected to include stops at various Caribbean destinations. A perfect day in CocoCay, BahamasRoyal Caribbean’s private island experience remains one of the most sought-after ports of call on the line.

What this means

Sea trials are where a ship transitions from a construction project to a working vessel. All systems are tested in real conditions and adjustments made here will determine their performance once the ship begins carrying passengers. For a ship class that has already set new benchmarks for size and payload, this step is particularly important.

Legend of the Seas enters open water, confirming that construction is on schedule and moving into its final stages. As her July debut approaches, the focus is now on finishing work and getting the ship ready to welcome her first guests.

By the end of the year, the ship will depart South Florida, adding another large option to the Caribbean cruise market and expanding the range of Royal Caribbean’s newest class.
