Director Charlotte Edwards said: “There is no doubt that it was incredibly difficult to get these 15 names in. This is the most difficult selection meeting I have ever been a part of, as there was such a large pool of players to choose from and so many talented players reached out to be part of the squad. “This is exactly what we want. This is the nature of world-class sport and being able to make these difficult decisions is a privilege we do not take lightly.
“The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup on home soil in 2026 is a special moment for the game in this country and we are all really motivated by what this group of players can do in the future and what they can achieve this summer.”
Sciver-Brunt added: “It is a great honor to lead England to the T20 World Cup at home in front of my family, friends and all my passionate supporters.
“We’ve all been waiting a long time for this summer and this tournament. The squad name means we’re almost there and we can’t wait to get out on the pitch and give it our all to win this World Cup again.”
“I know how much winning in 2009 meant to the players and captain Charlotte Edwards, and being in the team under Heather Knight’s leadership to win the 2017 ODI World Cup was incredibly special.
“The aim now is to do something similar with these fantastic players who are putting their heart and soul into achieving our goals. That effort will continue throughout the summer, with games against New Zealand and India before the tournament begins.”
‘Sciver-Brunt and Bell England players to watch out for’
Sky Sports Cricket’s Atherton explains which England players to watch out for at the Women’s T20 World Cup.
“I have to go with the captain. Nat Sciver-Brunt. It’s very important in a home tournament where there’s a lot of scrutiny, a lot of pressure, a lot of expectations.
“The same goes for Nat Sciver-Brunt, who is a leader as a captain and a driving force and obviously one of our best players.
“Opening bowler lauren Bell, “In English conditions, it’s very important to start bowling and find that movement with the new ball.”
Knight: The landscape of women’s sport has changed – England wants a World Cup legacy
Heather Knight said: sky sports England’s ambition at the home Women’s T20 World Cup starting in June is to emulate the Lionesses and Red Roses and “create a true legacy for women’s cricket in this country”.
The 35-year-old said the landscape of women’s sport had changed significantly since 2017, when England’s Lionesses won back-to-back Euro titles in 2022 and 2025. It was the first before a sold-out Wembley, where the Red Rose secured the Rugby World Cup title at a full house at Twickenham last September.
“The focus now is on women’s cricket at the World Cup, so it’s really exciting, it’s not that far away and it’s an opportunity for us to do something really special as a team,” Knight said. Sky Sports.
“The home support in 2017 was huge for us, the way the crowd produced and the final at Lord’s was very special.
“This is an opportunity to make a real impact on the sport of your country and leave a legacy. “If we do our job right and succeed this summer, we can leave a real legacy for the sport of women’s cricket in this country.
“It took some time for that success to see a change and I think things are very different now, especially for women’s cricket, where there is a structure beneath the game – the pros of the domestic game – it is much more common and the visibility is much higher to be a woman cricketer.
“Now if we have that success and things go well we’ll hopefully have the structures in place to make the most of it so it can be a really big moment. “We’ve seen what the Lionesses and the Red Roses have done, I’ve followed that very closely and know some of the players.
“We want to do something similar and inspire kids to be really ordinary and great cricketers.”
