Israel and Hezbollah continue fighting despite ceasefire in Lebanon

Israel and Hezbollah are still fighting in Lebanon despite a U.S.-brokered ceasefire agreement that went into effect April 17, halting six weeks of all-out fighting.

The agreement allows Israel “to take all necessary measures for self-defense at any time against planned, imminent or ongoing attacks.”

It is the Lebanese government, not Hezbollah, that signed the ceasefire with Israel, and the Lebanese military is too weak to control the Iran-backed group.

All this leaves the partial ceasefire in a very precarious situation, the BBC’s Lucy Williamson reports from Jerusalem.
