Extra Crispy Air Fryer Shrimp Fried Rice

Golden, crispy rice, tender vegetables, fluffy eggs, and savory, slightly sweet sauce are all made in an air fryer. Yes, it works. And yes, it’s delicious.

Air fryers are known to create a crispy texture while using less oil thanks to the circulating hot air (Business Insider). I’m applying that magic to one of my favorite takeout-inspired meals.

  • In the air fryer bowl, mix rice, mixed vegetables, sesame oil, 1 tablespoon avocado oil, and ¼ teaspoon salt. Make sure there are no holes in the air fryer. If so, line the air fryer with parchment paper. Toss the ingredients together until all are coated with oil. Turn your air fryer on to maximum crispiness or 450°F. Cook for 7 minutes.

  • Toss shrimp with ½ tablespoon avocado oil and a pinch of salt. Add shrimp on top of fried rice and boil for 5 more minutes.

  • After 5 minutes, when the shrimp are cooked to a certain degree, add eggs, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and remaining salt. Toss and cook for another 7-9 minutes or until shrimp and eggs are cooked through. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may need to toss in the rice last to cook the eggs. The goal is to eat chunks of crunchy rice, cooked shrimp, and cooked eggs.

  • Top with green onions, sesame seeds and optional chili crunch for seasoning.

  • I have the Ninja Air Fryer XL with Max Crisp. You can use any air fryer. Make sure there are no holes in the air fryer. Otherwise, the rice and eggs may leak out. Line the basket with parchment paper.
  • Cooking time may vary depending on the air fryer.
  • If you don’t have frozen rice, you can use cold rice. It is not recommended to use warm rice. If you use warm rice, the fried rice will be dry.
