New York City crime crackdown removes hundreds of illegal motorcycles

The New York Police Department bulldozed more than 200 scooters, mopeds and motorcycles in Staten Island on Tuesday as part of the city’s crackdown on illegal and unregistered bicycles.

New York police said at least 5,700 “dangerous and illegal vehicles” have been seized since the beginning of 2026, a 10% increase compared to the same period in 2025.

This comes after a shooting occurred in Brooklyn on April 1, in which a 7-month-old child was killed by a stray bullet, and the suspects left the scene on an illegal motorcycle.
