The Bahamas has a new tourism minister. She is the first woman to hold this role.

Glenys Margaret Hanna-Martin has been appointed as the Bahamas’ new Minister of Tourism, becoming the first woman to be appointed to the role following Prime Minister Philip Davis’ announcement of his new cabinet.

Hanna-Martin takes over as Minister for Education, Science and Technology, succeeding outgoing Tourism Minister Chester Cooper, and remains Deputy Prime Minister.

She previously served as Minister of Education. She has been a member of parliament since 2002. She also served as the country’s Minister of Transport and Aviation from 2012 to 2017, two areas that are now key priorities for the destination.

“With decades of outstanding public service and leadership across key national portfolios, Minister Hannah Martin brings a wealth of experience, perspective and commitment to this important responsibility,” Latin Duncombe, Secretary-General of the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, said in a statement. “We look forward to supporting her vision as she leads one of our country’s most important industries into its next chapter.”

The Bahamas is seeing a surge in visitor numbers as of 2026.
