Virgin Voyages’ second Lady Ship has returned from dry dock, but she’s never been the same again. Renovated from head to toe, Valiant Lady has been reborn with new dining, redesigned spaces and more than 20 new onboard events called Happenings. She spends the summer in the Mediterranean before moving to San Juan in October for a six- to eight-night Caribbean sailing season that will run until April 2027.
The last part is the title. The adults-only vessel is scheduled to run out of Puerto Rico mid-season. This means that renovation is not just a European story. Coming to the area this fall.
The “shining” phenomenon comes after her sister ship Brilliant Lady just launched last fall.
The center of change is the restaurant. It’s called Ariya by Razzle Dazzle, a modern Indian dining room developed by Indie Culinaire and celebrity chef Maneet Chauhan. Inspired by India’s spice markets, the restaurant seats 220 and serves a menu that travels across India, from lamb shank biryani to puffed rice and avocado chaat, as well as cocktails drawn from the same regional palette. The name tells a story: Ariya was a Tamil Nadu traveler and Sir Richard Branson’s great-grandmother who believed that food could travel across oceans more easily than language. Ariya joins what is already one of the most acclaimed dining lineups at sea.
The remaining refreshes apply to almost all decks. The Athletic Club, one of the ship’s most popular outdoor spaces, now features shaded daybed clusters and updated lounge seating facing the sea. Roundabout is a new furniture group, refurbished in Valiant Lady’s signature plum colour. Grounds Club Too still pours Intelligentsia coffee during the day, but is now a full bar starting in the late afternoon, making for a quick pre-dinner ritual or a quiet visit after a show.
The dance floor has undergone the most dramatic changes. At The Manor, the high platform was removed, opening up the room and creating space for more movement and late-night energy. On the Rocks rearranged the stage and added seating to provide better visibility across the central bar, while The Dock added new staging and windshields to keep performances comfortable from sunset to starlight as conditions change. The shopping lineup has also expanded, with TAG and Pandora joining the onboard stores and the Virgin Voyages brand store moving into a larger, more prominent space.
The best part of the relaunch is the entertainment built around the idea that a ship should never feel like one thing. Over 20 new happenings range from large-scale stage spectacles to intimate, character-led parties. In the Red Room, Sink or Swim turns theater into a dangerous game show, and Sports Smarts combines sports trivia with physical challenges. At The Manor, tune in for vintage TV game show energy and the Nice Box channel! Unboxing the Mystery Retailer. After dark, the line-up becomes bolder and more sociable with concepts like Dirty Laundry, which turns strangers into teammates, and Off the Record, an overarching social game filled with secrets and strategy.
Happenings, a food and drink event, draws on Virgin Voyages’ culinary credentials. Extra Virgin: Aperitivo Club explores the science of pairing spritz, premium olive oil, and pasta. Espresso Yourself combines three espresso martinis with live music and coffee-inspired artwork, while Sweet Aft Matcha invites sailors to create their own beer and sample the blend of flavors and history behind matcha. For something a little softer, the slate extends to The Perch’s headphone-led reset, Silent Sweat, and hands-on upcycling, rope work and crochet sessions where guests can send home something they’ve made. Sir Richard Branson’s lifelong love of chess has even led to his own friendly tournament, Check, Please.
Behind the visible changes lie less obvious changes. All of the ship’s more than 1,300 crew members have undergone a culture refresh for the line, called Virgin Voyages, which it describes as a centerpiece of its sailors’ returning service. “Valiant Lady was already one of the most attractive ships on the seas, but we continually wondered how we could make her even more worth returning to,” said Nirmal Saverimuttu, CEO of Virgin Voyages, pointing to Ariya, The Manor and the reimagined Happenings as evidence of the ship’s new energy.
Before San Juan, Valiant Lady has a full European summer ahead of her, including the Grand Tour of Italy, the French Riviera, Ibiza, the Northern Explorer from Amsterdam to Iceland, and the rare Total Eclipse of the Med voyage that takes sailors on a complete journey on the high seas. She will then head to the Caribbean and sail six to eight days from San Juan until April 2027.
