US President Donald Trump compared the UFC building under construction at the White House to the Eiffel Tower and said, “We will never demolish it.”
In honor of the 250th anniversary of American independence, the UFC will host an unprecedented show on June 14 on the South Lawn of the American leader’s home in Washington, D.C.
Construction began with workers assembling a domed arch over what would be an octagonal assembly area.
Trump said he might choose to keep the stadium as is because it is “attractive to a lot of people,” just as Paris chose to keep the Eiffel Tower.
Built as part of the 1889 World’s Fair to commemorate the centenary of the French Revolution, the famous structure was scheduled for demolition 20 years later before French authorities decided to keep it.
“A lot of people don’t know that it had to be torn down right after the World’s Fair,” Trump said on TikTok.
“They said, ‘We seem to like it a bit, so let’s leave it a little longer.’ Then they said, ‘Let’s leave it longer.’ And they never took it down.”
“We’re building something in front of the White House that will be very attractive to a lot of people. And I’m looking at it and maybe we’ll never tear it down.”
