John Jumper, who recently won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, announced Friday that he would be making the jump to Anthropic after “nearly nine years” at Google DeepMind.
In a post about
Jumper (pictured right, with Hassabi) added: “GDM is a special place. I can’t wait to see what surprises they discover next.”
Bloomberg reports that Jumper is a key member of a Google team that develops coding tools that Google is having trouble selling to enterprises. Character AI co-founder Noam Shazeer also announced this week that he would be leaving DeepMind. However, in the case of Shazeer, we will be joining OpenAI.
Jumper and Hassabis won the 2024 Nobel Prize for their work on AlphaFold, an AI model that can predict the 3D structure of proteins based on their genetic sequences.
