Katamaran Hotel & Resort Lombok is located right on Senggigi Beach, on the quieter side of Lombok Island, and is exactly the kind of hotel you want after touring Indonesia on paper. When we got here we had already traveled to Singapore, Komodo and Bali, so the last thing we wanted was a place where we could actually slow down rather than sit in traffic for days. We came from Katamaran Komodo and went in with high expectations after seeing the design and pool photos. Some of those expectations were met, some weren’t, and one detail in particular surprised us in a way we couldn’t have seen in the photos. Let us honestly evaluate every detail to see if this hotel in Lombok matches the photos.

Katamaran Hotel & Resort Lombok review: Room – Premier Club King, Sea View
We chose the Premier Club King room for the view and king size bed. We asked about an upgrade when we arrived and toured the pool villas, but the villas were on the first floor so there was no privacy as anyone walking on the resort pool and beach would have a direct view of the pool and rooms. Also, because it is so low, the views are very limited, and there is a private pool in front of the room. This is something to keep in mind when choosing a room type.

The first impression of The Premier Club King was its spacious size, cleanliness, and details such as a couple of towels and welcome dessert. And because it was a corner room, there was an open sea view. It almost looked like a cruise ship cabin because you seemed to be above the water rather than next to it.

This room features premium bedding, a minibar, an in-room safe, a table and two chairs, a proper desk for getting some work done on the beach, and a balcony. We only used the balcony to dry our clothes.

Our room looked straight out over the water and I’m already longing to wake up to that view. The room felt spacious rather than cramped, and there was enough space to actually unpack instead of having to carry suitcases for the stay.

What was lacking was privacy. The bathtub and part of the shower were located right in front of the window facing the beach, so anyone passing by could see right inside. Unlike the pool villa, where the lack of privacy was immediately apparent upon looking around, the lack of privacy here only became apparent after actually using the bathroom. Although it’s beautiful to look at, it’s not really practical to live in for a few days. We ended up closing the blinds when using the bathroom. It was also a single versus double sink.

Location: Senggigi, a quiet area in Lombok
When choosing among hotels on Lombok Island, Senggigi is especially worth knowing about as it offers easy access to the Gili Islands and other Lombok attractions while skipping ferry logistics and crowds. Katamaran Hotel and Resort Lombok is located directly on Senggigi Beach, close to Pantai Mangsit. It faces west for beautiful sunsets and the airport is just an hour’s drive away. That part of the location worked exactly as planned.

Senggigi Beach itself was not like that. We booked the resort in part because it faces west for sunset and is located right on the sand. But the sand wasn’t what it looked like in the pictures and the water was rougher than we expected, making it more suitable for viewing than swimming. Between then and the days we spent beach hopping and Gili Island tours with a private driver, we never used Senggigi Beach. If the stunning beach just outside your room is your main reason for booking Katamaran, it may be worth tempering your expectations. The location is really convenient for exploring Lombok and getting to Gilis. Don’t expect the beach itself to be the highlight.
Choose the region that’s right for you: Senggigi Beach VS Selong Belanak Beach: Since we also visited Selong Belanak Beach, we wanted to stay in that area instead of Senggigi. Because I could still see the sunset, the white sand beach was vast, the water was calm, and the entire beach was much prettier.
Katamaran Hotel & Resort Lombok review: Dining and Pool
Breakfast: The buffet breakfast was okay, but nothing to write home about and was much more limited than the nice spread at Katamaran Komodo where we had just been. There was still plenty of variety, but the food was always cold, from eggs to hashbrowns, and by the third morning it was starting to feel repetitive.
The Sail Restaurant and Pool Bar are open daily. The chicken curry sandwich and club sandwich were our choices and the view from here was beautiful. Service at one of the pool bars (with glass walls) was good, but service at the other pool was painfully slow. 45 minutes later we canceled our order because we were ready to go and prepare dinner.

Kliff Bistro is an elegant dining option for dinner, with a quick golf cart (complimentary) shuttle from the hotel to the hotel for dinner. They say it’s built so you can see Mount Agung and the water right away and watch the sunset with a drink in hand, but once it gets dark, unless you sit at a table in the front, the view is very limited. To be honest, I don’t even remember what I ate because it wasn’t a memorable meal.

tip: Skip Kliff Bistro and go to Qunci Villas Qerang Exquisite Seafood and Steaks. The view, service and food were 100% better than Kliff Bistro and the best dinner in Lombok. We actually wanted to book somewhere to Qunci or Selong Belanak instead of Katamaran Lombok after having dinner and walking around Qunci.
Who is Katamaran Resort and Hotel in Lombok?
This is a couples and honeymoon type of accommodation. Yes there is a kids and kids club but there weren’t many kids around. If you want a beach base in Lombok without dealing with the crowds, this fits the bill. Quiet is key here, so it’s not for those looking for an energetic and sociable atmosphere. However, if you want an even nicer beach and don’t mind driving longer to catch a boat to Gilis, we recommend Selong Belanak Beach.
final verdict
Katamaran executed the decoration and service to perfection. All staff interactions were genuinely warm and the design throughout the resort was one of the prettiest I’ve seen in Indonesia. Two disappointments were the beach and dinner at Kliff Bistro. Both were more important than usual as the main reason we booked this hotel in the first place was the beach. As for the room, the privacy issues with the bathtub and shower were not something we could see on the tour or in the photos, and we only discovered it when we went to use the bathroom ourselves.

This eventually became the pattern for many hotels we stayed in in Indonesia. While many properties look amazing, function doesn’t always match design. Katamaran Lombok is a clear example of this gap, especially after Katamaran Komodo, which we liked overall. It’s worth a visit for the service and design, but go in knowing that the beach isn’t the highlight and the bathroom windows and pool villas offer less privacy than you’d expect from a room on this floor.

Yes, this resort is located directly on the beach with its own private sandy beach.
I’m sure there is something like it in many places in Indonesia. However, we didn’t see any mosquitoes at all day and night and we used mosquito repellent.
