Looking back on 15 years of progress

Just 15 years ago, rewilding was a relatively new concept in Europe. Today, it is increasingly recognized as a reliable and effective approach to large-scale natural restoration. Since its founding in 2011, Rewilding Europe has worked with partners across the continent to demonstrate how nature can recover when given the space and opportunity to lead.

We are now pleased to announce our Annual Review 2025, which celebrates these developments. With a detailed overview of our work and impact over the past year, the review reflects 15 years of progress and growing momentum supporting rewilding as a practical and holistic solution to biodiversity loss, climate challenges, rural economic decline and the restoration of resilient ecosystems.

“Our unique and progressive approach to nature restoration has helped transform wild environments from the margins to the mainstream of European conservation,” says Frans Schepers, Managing Director of Rewilding Europe. “As Europe spends billions of dollars responding to floods, droughts, wildfires and health impacts, we must realize that natural recovery is fundamental risk management. Restoring ecosystems through rewilding is one of the smartest preventive investments we can make.”
