Newcastle have made no comment on the situation. Sky Sports News We understand Arsenal have had no contact with them regarding the midfielder’s availability.

However, terms of a deal for the 28-year-old are understood to have been explored through intermediaries.

Guimaraes has two years remaining on his contract with Newcastle, with an option to extend it by a further year until the summer of 2029.

Take a look at Bruno Guimaraes’ best Newcastle goals

Guimaraes, who joined Newcastle from Lyon for £35 million in January 2022, has been one of the key players in the club’s return to prominence after the Saudi-backed owners completed a takeover in October 2021.

But Newcastle do not want to see their captain send star forwards Alexander Isaac and Anthony Gordon and fellow midfielder Sandro Tonali out the door.

Guimaraes, who missed a penalty as Brazil crashed out of the World Cup against Norway in the last 16, has established himself as a crowd favourite, and was also the man who led the team to Carabao Cup glory two seasons ago, lifting the club’s first domestic trophy in 70 years.

Toon boss Eddie Howe will be desperate to keep one of his most important players and will not want a repeat of the story that saw Isak force a £130m move to Liverpool after going on strike last summer.

Selling Gordon to Barcelona (£69.3m) and Tonali to Tottenham (£100m) for a total of £169.3m has significantly improved Newcastle’s ability to comply with spending regulations, but a more high-profile move would trigger another major rebuilding project.

Howe’s side struggled through a disappointing domestic campaign in their bid to replace Isak last season, eventually finishing 12th in the Premier League table.

‘Potential Guimaraens deal huge blow to Newcastle’

Keith Downey from Sky Sports News:

“Newcastle have not commented on the situation and there has been no offer or communication from Arsenal.

“However, Bruno Guimaraes has expressed his desire to leave Newcastle United, either himself or through one of the agents working on his future.

“If you look at some of the Newcastle players who have recently left, just last week Sandro Tonali joined Tottenham Hotspur for £100 million and will double his salary at the same time.

“So Bruno Guimaras is probably not saying anything and thinking, ‘Well, when is it my turn to double my salary and give me a chance to win the league?’

“So this is a huge blow for Newcastle fans.

“He has two years left on his contract and a third is possible, but as far as I understand, Newcastle are not at all interested in selling him this transfer window.”

“Their position has always been the same: He is not for sale.”
