I was surprised by the good response. Our Madras shirt last year. There was a great craft story there, though. hand weavingI was a little afraid that the bolder checks and colors would put people off.
But the first batch sold out within a week, and we rushed to get another batch by the end of the summer, which also sold out. Perhaps a little unintentional hype played a role. It seemed to sell especially quickly since the first batch was not as large as I had feared. Still, the response is good.
It’s not always like this. Readers have commented that it can seem like everything is selling quickly, and everything is proving to be a huge success. Well, just to show that we’re not overselling, some things don’t get that kind of response.
sleeveless sweaterFor example, I’ve been running since launch and haven’t seen any kind of rush. A few readers love this color and have repeatedly requested new colors, but it’s not for everyone. The Wool Walker It’s also been selling consistently over the past few years, but never very quickly.

Perhaps Madras’ success shows that there is a hole in the market for interesting, yet wearable patterns. Something that might leave your partner slightly, but pleasantly, surprised.
It may be that fewer people are exploring it because they feel the current market is too tough. Everyone tends to be conservative during difficult times. (And as women’s clothing trends shifted to men’s clothing, jeans, boat shoes, and suede jackets all appeared in the women’s market.)
Whatever the reason, I’m happy to say that this is how we did it. Original PS Madras restocked We’ve added more quantities than last year and two new colors. One is brighter than the original and one is more conservative.

The first color above is cream with brown, beige and blue overchecks, with a hint of green and a hint of yellow added. To me it feels the more adventurous of the two new colors, but that’s probably due to the overall paler color rather than the check itself.
It’s actually very easy to wear because you can choose the color of the check to match other clothes you’re wearing, such as blue, brown, green, or khaki. It’s similar to how we’ve all been told to choose a color when choosing a tie or handkerchief to go with a tweed jacket.
Here I am wearing a shirt and old Levi’s. PS boat shoesAnd put it out.
Madras shirts are easier because they are cut a little more loosely across the body than other shirts. oxford Before contractions, for those who know the range). It’s not the kind of shirt you wear all that much during the week, but it’s a comfortable and stylish option for the weekend.

And to keep everyone happy, a new blue madras is in place. Both work equally well in either style, but we know our readers like to see a variety of options.
Blue is designed to be very easy to wear. It has the same color palette as jeans, a navy suit, and blue oxfords, but is light enough to pair well with any jeans and navy chinos.
The background is a light grey/beige with various shades of blue layered on top. I know not everyone will like the t-shirt underneath, but I like it as a great layering t-shirt. More information on the topic The t-shirt inside the shirt is here..

A final fact about madras shirts worth repeating is that they require very little ironing. Like the button-down oxfords that Ivy students clearly favored because they don’t have to be ironed (or, more realistically, you can mostly get away with them without ironing), these handloom madras don’t wrinkle quite as much, which is a nice bonus.
Most things are fine if you just wash them and dry them by hand.
Additionally, all three Madras patterns are available in fabric that people can purchase directly and send to the shirtmaker. Since it is a narrow fabric with selvedge, it is sold in a length of 2.7m.
