Instagram announced Tuesday that users will be able to swap out music in their published feed posts and carousels. Until now, users could only change the music in a post by deleting it and then re-uploading it.
The newly released “Audio Replacement” tool allows users to update a post’s music at any time while retaining the post’s existing likes, comments, shares, and reach. The Meta-owned company says this new feature is another step in its efforts to build tools that give creators more creative control over their content.
This update removes restrictions that forced creators and brands to choose between maintaining post engagement and updating the soundtrack. In some cases, changing songs can help keep your content on trend. In some cases, people may want to refresh older posts to reflect their evolving music tastes.
You can access the new feature by going to the post you want to change the audio for and then tapping the two-line menu in the top right corner of the post. Then scroll down to ‘Edit’ and you will see the option to replace the audio.
Instagram has been criticized for years for introducing controversial features that many users never wanted. So it makes sense for the social media giant to now add small but meaningful features that people might actually find useful.
For example, the social media giant recently ended the ability to use AI to allow users to edit photos on public Instagram accounts. The company said last week that the feature would be removed because it “has not achieved its goals.”
Last May, the company launched a feature called “Instants” that it bills as a new format for sharing real moments on Instagram in real time. However, many users were unaware of how the feature worked and ended up accidentally sending the image to everyone on their friends list, which led many users to share their frustrations with the feature online.
