Everything You Need to Make the Best Kale Pineapple Smoothie

This Vegan Kale Pineapple Smoothie uses just 5 simple ingredients and adds a few extras to make it even more nutritious. Here’s everything you need to make it:

  • Kale: The best way to consume green vegetables is in smoothies! You won’t taste any of the kale, but it will give your smoothie a huge boost of antioxidants, vitamin C, vitamin K, and more. Plus, look at that beautiful green color.
  • Frozen Pineapple: It has a natural sweetness and delicious tropical flavor.
  • Frozen Bananas: Using ripe frozen bananas adds sweetness to your smoothie and makes it taste amazing.
  • Coconut Milk: Um hello, it feels like piña colada! Using light coconut milk (from a can) adds healthy fats to this smoothie, making it super creamy and delicious.
  • Chia Seeds: Eat some more healthy fats and omega-3s.
  • Fresh Ginger: This is optional, but I like to add a chunk of fresh peeled ginger because it’s great for digestion and soothing the tummy.

Use what you have

Among some of these ingredients? Don’t worry! Consider switching to a kale smoothie that is still delicious to make.

  • For kale: Feel free to use an equal amount of fresh spinach.
  • For pineapple: I think frozen mango would be perfect here.
  • For coconut milk: I love the delicious flavor and creaminess that coconut milk gives this smoothie, but you can use any milk you like (dairy-free or not).
  • For teeth: Feel free to omit or add the flaxseed meal! See below for more information about nutritional fortifiers.

Can I make this without bananas?

I know some people shy away from making smoothies with bananas. So, you can add more pineapple to this kale smoothie or mix in 2-3 large medjool dates that have softened by soaking in warm water. Let me know in the comments how it goes!

Boost your nutrition with a pineapple kale smoothie

With just five simple ingredients, this Kale Pineapple Smoothie is the perfect base to add your favorite nutritional boosters and mix-ins. Here are some of our favorites:

  • Flaxseed Meal: This is one of my favorite ingredients to add to smoothies for a little boost of fiber and minerals, and it’s especially great for nursing moms as flax seeds can help increase milk supply. Usually one tablespoon is enough! Here are some of my favorite brands.
  • Hemp Seeds: Add a tablespoon of hemp seeds to your smoothie for a boost of healthy fats, omegas, and minerals.
  • More Vegetables: Want to eat more vegetables for breakfast? Along with the kale, you can also try adding frozen cauliflower for an extra boost. You will never taste it!
  • protein: Easily add more protein to your smoothie by adding Greek yogurt or a scoop of your favorite protein powder. I recommend Vital Protein Collagen Peptides or Four Sigmatic Plant-Based Protein Powder.

How to Make a Perfect Kale Smoothie Every Time

Here are some key tips and tricks for making the best vegan kale pineapple smoothie that’s always creamy, cold, and delicious.

  1. Use frozen ingredients. It is best to use frozen fruits and vegetables. This is because it helps keep the smoothie cold and thick. Sometimes ice doesn’t mix well, so it’s best to skip it unless absolutely necessary.
  2. Add green vegetables in batches. If you are having trouble blending the vegetables thoroughly in your blender, add the kale in batches until it is completely combined with the fruit.
  3. Add more liquid. If your smoothie is too thick or doesn’t blend completely, don’t hesitate to add more liquid. High-powered blenders tend to blend frozen fruit much better, so you may need to add more milk if you have a regular or personal size blender.
  4. Start at low speed. Start the blender on low speed and then gradually increase to high speed to help combine all the ingredients. Lastly, finish by turning the blender on low speed.
