Afghanistan has suspended the T20 international tri-series in Pakistan next month following the deaths of three local cricketers.
The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) said the death was caused by a military attack amid ongoing cross-border tensions between the two countries.
Pakistan and Afghanistan extended a 48-hour ceasefire during peace talks on Friday after clashes left dozens dead, Reuters reported.
Afghanistan will face Pakistan and Sri Lanka in a three-match series from November 17 to 29, with two league matches scheduled between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
“ACB considers this incident to be a great loss to the Afghan sporting community, athletes and the cricket family,” the ACB said in a statement.
“In response to this tragic incident and as a mark of respect for the victims, the Afghanistan Cricket Board has decided to suspend its participation in the upcoming tri-nation T20I series.”
Afghanistan Captain Rashid Khan said in a post on social media platform
The Pakistan Cricket Board is yet to comment on the development.
The tri-series was scheduled to see Afghanistan, Pakistan and Sri Lanka meet twice before the top two teams would advance to the final on November 29 in Lahore.
