Africa will get its first Marriott Edition hotel in 2026: Travel Weekly

Marriott International and V&A Waterfront Holdings have signed a deal to open the Cape Town Edition Hotel in 2026, marking the luxury brand’s debut in Africa.

The project includes a 142-room hotel and six private residences within a new building at the Cape Town V&A Waterfront. Located on the edge of the planned Granger Bay development, the property offers views of Table Mountain, Lion’s Head and the Atlantic Ocean. The Cape Town Edition features the brand’s signature design-led approach, including a rooftop bar, spa, swimming pool, dining area and meeting facilities.

“Signing our first edition hotel deal in Africa is an important milestone in the company’s growth strategy on the continent,” said Karim Cheltout, Senior Vice President, Development, Middle East and Africa, Marriott International. “The V&A Waterfront is an iconic venue and we are confident that this project will set a new standard for luxury hospitality in the market.”

V&A Waterfront CEO David Green said the project would allow guests to enjoy luxury retailers, restaurants, charter cruises and other waterfront experiences. The V&A Waterfront is one of the most visited destinations in Africa and one of the oldest ports in the Southern Hemisphere.
