AI-powered weather app added to Pixel phones

With the launch of the new Pixel devices, the Pixel phone lineup is getting its own new weather app powered by AI. Announced today at its Made by Google event in Mountain View, the tech giant gave a sneak peek of the app, which provides personalized AI weather reports built by Gemini Nano, Google’s AI model designed to run on mobile devices.

The tech company touts its new app as one that “eliminates the need for users to scroll through a series of numbers to figure out what the weather will be like for the day.” Instead, users can customize the app based on the type of weather information they want to see. For example, users can choose to keep an eye on the UV index by dragging its tile to a more visible location in the app.

The app also includes a dynamic design with colorful backgrounds, “AI weather reports,” daily and hourly forecasts, and other standard weather app features.

Ahead of today's event, tidbits about the app were leaked, showing features like movable tiles displaying things like humidity, wind speed, and pressure, but without a 10-day forecast.
