Liverpool manager Arne Slott has revealed Alisson will be out for ‘several weeks’ after picking up an injury during the goalkeeper’s 1-0 win at Crystal Palace.
Liverpool’s goalkeeper fell to the ground in discomfort after clearing the ball in his own box. He was later replaced by 23-year-old Vitezslav Jaros, who made an unexpected debut for the club. Second aspirant Caoimhin Kelleher missed the trip to south London due to illness.
After his side’s win at Selhurst Park, Slott explained that his goalkeeper would not be linked with the Brazil national team during the international break.
“It will take a few weeks,” he said.
“The latest news is that we don’t know, which means he is not in the Brazil national team and we don’t expect him to be in the team for the first game we play after that.”
Asked if it was a hamstring injury, Slott said, “I think so.”
Despite the injury, Slot believes his side will be well-suited to deal with Alisson’s absence.
“Alisson is our clear number one,” he said.
“(He’s) the best goalkeeper in the world, so when you get injured it’s always a huge blow, but in almost every position we have a really good second option.
“Caoimhin Kelleher has already shown that, so it’s clear he’s the second man. And since Kaom was unwell yesterday, it’s great to know that our third goalkeeper can have an impact on our results.”
Slot also confirmed Alexis Mac Allister was also withdrawn at half-time with a groin injury. The Argentina international started the match but was replaced by Dominik Szobszlai during the break.
“It’s hard to judge how bad it is,” the manager said.
“He could have kept playing, but he felt it was a little too much and I don’t think it would be a good idea to keep playing.
“Will he be able to go to Argentina and play there? That’s difficult for me to say.”
