AmaWaterways recently said its new vessel will sail Vietnam/Cambodia cruises on the Mekong River in 2026.
However, it won't be called AmaKaia, which is the name choice announced by the company. That's because AmaWaterways has discovered that Emerald Cruises' next luxury ship will have a similar name. Emerald Kaia is also scheduled to arrive in 2026.
“There’s Kaia,” said Rudi Schreiner, co-founder and president of AmaWaterways.
So the company's Mekong River vessel will be the AmaMaya.
Schreiner said Armagh Waterways decided to change the ship's name “within a matter of days” after it was first announced on May 30.
AmaMaya will join AmaDara in Cambodia and Vietnam, with both ships offering two of Ama's itineraries: the 7-night Charms of the Mekong and the 7-night Riches of the Mekong in Siem Reap. It will sail between and Ho Chi Minh City.
