Ambani wedding: Son of Indian tycoon marries after months of festivities

Reality TV star Kim Kardashian and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair were among the international guests who arrived in Mumbai for the wedding of the son of Asia's richest man on Friday.

Anant Ambani, son of Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani, is set to marry Radhika Merchant, daughter of pharmaceutical magnates Biren and Shaila Merchant.

The lavish four-day wedding in Mumbai was the final event in a series of lavish parties the family has been hosting since March.

The city's main roads will be closed for several hours a day until the festival ends on Monday.

The lavish celebration, which has been underway for months, has already featured performances from pop stars like Rihanna and Justin Bieber.

But it sparked a backlash. City dwellers complained about traffic congestion, while others questioned the ostentatious displays of wealth in the seemingly endless celebrations.

The city was hit by heavy rain on Friday, with flooding reported in some areas.

According to Forbes, 66-year-old Mukesh Ambani is currently the world’s 10th richest person with a net worth of $115 billion. Reliance Industries, founded by his father in 1966, is a conglomerate with businesses ranging from oil and retail to financial services and telecommunications.

Anant Ambani is the youngest of three children, all of whom sit on the board of Reliance Industries. The 29-year-old is involved in Reliance’s energy business and sits on the board of Reliance Foundation.
