The airline plans to begin daily services to the country between: Miami and Cap Haitien on a Boeing 737 aircraft on November 1.
This is the first time American Airlines has offered this service. haiti market for several years due to ongoing instability in the country.
American Airlines does not yet operate flights to Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince.
Located on the country’s northern coast, Cap-Haiiten is a colorful and vibrant destination with some of the most beautiful beaches in all of Hispaniola.
While Haiti was trying to position itself as a new nation. caribbean tourist destinations A major push under former Tourism Minister Stephanie Villedrouin about a decade ago created a serious pipeline of new hotels to the country, but the effort has stalled under successive governments.
If reopened, Cap-Haitien is likely to become a key stop for the country’s potential tourism development.
The route is currently operated from Miami by Sunrise Airways, a fast-growing regional airline that operates a growing network of flights within the Caribbean.
So what about the cost?
American Airlines put its flights for sale, but at a huge premium.
On a Google Flights search, I found a round-trip fare between Miami and Cap-Haitien on American Airlines for the first week of November was about $1,716.
This compares to about $782 for Sunrise.
