American Fashion at the 2021 Met Gala

Typically, as May approaches, celebrities, designers, and fashion enthusiasts alike begin to feel the excitement of the start of the new year. In this case, the party of the year is the infamous Met Gala, sometimes called the “Oscars of the East Coast.” Formerly known as the Costume Institute Gala or Costume Institute Benefit, the event has been hosted by the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City for more than 73 years. This annual gala is a fundraiser for the Costume Institute that began in 1948 and continues to raise millions of dollars each year.

The Met Gala began in November and was moved to the first Monday in May in 2005, but due to COVID-19 the event was postponed and held on September 13.Day this year. The name of the first small exhibition is: America: Dictionary of FashionThe focus is on patchwork quilting, which serves as a metaphor for the melting pot of cultures living in this country.

In true American fashion, Keke Palmer teamed up with Sergio Hudson to help her embody Diana Ross' infamous show-stopping style and elegance for her Met Gala look. The shimmering gold dress is sleek and flattering, while the low open back adds a sensuous finish. With a smokey eye and stunning hairdo, Palmer showed off her confidence while hosting the prestigious event.

Yara Shahidi
