American sets start date for New York-Tokyo Haneda route: Travel Weekly

American Airlines will launch daily service between New York JFK and Tokyo Haneda on June 28.

The announcement follows the U.S. Department of Transportation’s final regulatory approval of the route on February 15. Tickets go on sale February 26.

The launch will make American the only U.S. carrier to fly from JFK to Tokyo. United flies daily to Tokyo Haneda and Narita from nearby Newark.

American Airlines' daily JFK-Haneda service will be supplemented by twice-daily service operated by joint venture partner Japan Airlines (JAL).

The three American/JAL flights will compete with twice-daily service from United's joint venture partner All Nippon Airways.
