Officials said the fire that occurred after a massive explosion occurred at a house in Utrecht, Netherlands, was caused by a gas leak.
At least four people were injured in the incident, which occurred near Vischerstik, a city center street, on Thursday afternoon. Utrecht Mayor Sharon Dijksma said none of the injuries were life-threatening.
The cause of the gas leak is not yet known, but it is not believed to have been intentional.
The fire was later put out, but it took firefighters several hours.
Large plumes of smoke were seen rising above houses and nearby streets were covered in rubble and glass.
One witness told RTL News there was a “deafening roar” and “everything in the alley was destroyed.”
Others told the Volksrant newspaper that walls and windows were blown out of several buildings and many nearby shops were also damaged.
Local residents were evacuated and members of the public were advised to leave the area.
