Users are getting their first taste of Apple Intelligence as Apple unveiled some of its AI suite of features in the iOS 18.1 developer beta released on Monday.
The company launched Apple Intelligence at its Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) in June, but the first developer beta and public beta did not have any Apple Intelligence features.
Usage Restrictions
The iOS 18.1 rollout is also limited. According to a press release from Apple in June, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPad, and Mac (including M1) users will be able to try out Apple Intelligence features later in the beta if their device language is set to US English. However, based on user and our testing, this requires that the device region be set to US. Note that this does not change the App Store region.
After setting your region and language, to use Apple Intelligence features, you must tap Join Waitlist under the new Apple Intelligence & Siri menu in Settings. You will receive a notification when you are accepted into the Waitlist to use Apple Intelligence features. It may take time for your device to download models related to the AI family, so not all features will be available immediately.
characteristic
With the current release, Apple has enabled new animations for Siri. You can also double-tap the bottom bar to have Siri use text prompts.
You can also use the writing tools to correct or rewrite your text with a similar tone. You can also choose to change the tone with the options of “Friendly,” “Professional,” and “Succinct.” Apple also allows you to edit large amounts of text into lists, summaries, tables, or key points.

The Mail app offers a summary feature, and you can also see priority emails at the top of your inbox. You can also see a one-line summary of an email without opening it. You can also use the Smart Reply feature to quickly reply to emails.
The iOS 18.1 update includes a new Apple Intelligence-based focus mode called “Reduced Interruptions,” which uses AI to show you only essential notifications.
Apple Intelligence Suite still lacks many features, such as ChatGPT integration and Image Playground. According to Bloomberg, Apple is still fixing bugs in many of these new features, so users will have to wait to test them out.
