Apple plans to sell its first smart glasses in 2027, with a likely reveal later this year, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
Gurman has been consistently reporting on the evolution of the company’s smart glasses strategy, but now we have more details about what it will look like. He said Apple is testing four designs and could eventually release any or all of them.
These designs reportedly include large rectangular frames, thinner rectangular frames (similar to the glasses worn by CEO Tim Cook), larger oval or round frames, and smaller oval or round frames. Apple is also considering a variety of colors, including black, ocean blue, and light brown.
In some ways, the glasses are a step back from ambitious plans that once called for Apple to release a variety of mixed and augmented reality devices. This plan has already failed due to product delays and poor reception of Vision Pro.
Meanwhile, these glasses sound closer to Meta’s Ray-Ban glasses. It doesn’t have a display, but it allows users to take photos and videos (with what Apple calls an elliptical camera lens), take calls, play music, and interact with the long-promised Siri upgrade.
