Archie Vaughan: Michael Vaughan's son gets first England U19 call-up for Sri Lanka two-Test series | Cricket News

Archie Vaughan has been named in the England Under-19 squad for the upcoming two-Test series against Sri Lanka.

The Somerset County cricketer and son of former England captain Michael Vaughan impressed against the Young Lions U19s last month.

The then 18-year-old batsman was playing against Rocky Flintoff, son of his father's former England teammate Andrew Flintoff, and scored 85 off 83 balls.

However, Flintoff's 106 helped England win the 50-over match by two wickets after the Young Lions were dismissed for 288.

Vaughan and Flintoff, who recently signed for Somerset and Lancashire respectively, are among 14 players vying for a place in the first Test match against Sri Lanka at Walmsley next week.

Also included in the squad are Farhan Ahmed, brother of current England spinner Rehan Ahmed, and Jayden Denley, nephew of former England international Joe Denley.

The captaincy for this side is a first for Warwickshire native Hamza Sheikh, who has been in charge of his state's reserve team and is part of the FCC Select XI that will play a three-day warm-up match at Beckenham ahead of the Test series against the England senior men's team.
