Manchester United need to assess the extent of injuries to Rasmus Hoilund and Lenny Yoro within 48 hours after both players were substituted in the first half of their pre-season game against Arsenal in Los Angeles.
Høylund put United ahead after 10 minutes, latching onto a pass from Marcus Rashford and firing a powerful shot past Arsenal goalkeeper Karl Hain.
The Danish striker turned Aaron Wan-Bissaka's cross wide from close range but was eventually substituted after just 15 minutes with a muscle injury.
18-year-old defender Yoro, who joined United from Lille in a £52m move earlier this month, has announced his retirement after missing a game and undergoing lengthy treatment.
“We have to wait 24 hours and then we will know more,” Ten Hag said. On TV.
“We've been very cautious, especially with Lenny. It's disappointing that he's gone, but let's look at it positively and see what happens.”
The usual approach is to wait 24 hours for the swelling to subside and then perform an examination for a more accurate evaluation.
After showing off his speed and physical ability to score the opening goal, Hoylund appeared to alert medical staff to a problem with a thigh muscle after a sprint.
After a long treatment, Yoro limped out, raising concerns about his injuries.
Defender Jonny Evans expressed concerns about Hozlund and Yoro in his post-match press conference, saying: “Obviously, you don't want injuries, especially in pre-season.
“You know one of the biggest things you try to avoid while training your body is injury, hopefully it's not that bad, but we'll see. Maybe we'll see tomorrow, I'm sure.
“Muscle injuries are not so good either. But. Actually, I don't know Rasmus very well. I think he hinted at a hamstring. I don't know.”
Analysis: Will Ten Hag's misfortune turn around?
Sky Sports' Ben Grounds:
Erik ten Hag has already warned that this new season will be about “survival of the fittest”.
Last season was plagued by injuries that failed to show any signs of improvement and the Dutchman, who lost two key players in harm's way ahead of the club's first Premier League game against Fulham at Old Trafford on August 16, is questioning whether his fortunes will ever turn around.
Hozlund headed straight for the tunnel, but his urinary tract looked very uncomfortable.
With Victor Lindelof sidelined with a minor injury, 20-year-old Rhys Bennett, who spent part of last season on loan at Stockport, has been paired with Harry Maguire in the replacement.
The setback ruined a bright start at the SoFi Stadium, with Ten Hag left furious at Gabriel Jesus' equaliser as he believed it should have been ruled out for offside.
Gabriel Martinelli slotted home the winner, beating 17-year-old full-back James Scanlon, but it will be this high-profile defeat that will be Ten Hag's biggest worry.
United won the penalty shootout scheduled after the game in Los Angeles, with Jadon Sancho converting the winning penalty to secure a 4-3 victory.
Mason Mount also looked bright as he resumed his career at United after a long break during his debut season.

Arteta praises Arsenal's morale after comeback win
arsenal manager Mikel Arteta He praised the team's morale after their comeback against United in California.
“It was a test,” Arteta said. “It wasn't three points, but there was a lot on the table and you could see it.
“I think both teams were the same. United were competing at the highest level and that's what you want. You want to be well prepared for the games you play in the league and the Champions League. You have to understand where your team is as quickly as possible.”
“Of course there are many aspects and many things that need to be improved and improved upon, but I think we have a good foundation now.
“The spirit is good, the way the players work and apply themselves, the will to compete and win is there and I've tried to make the most of the last two weeks to give them the best possible foundation.”
The Arsenal manager added of Jesus' pre-season form: “He looks really good, really sharp. He changed a lot in the summer and he's back to top form again.
“If you have that baseline, you can build on other things, but if you don't have that foundation, we don't have a player and he has to be in that state to get the best out of him. He's figured that out and I'm really happy with what he showed today. You can see it in his form, the way he moves, you can see the spark in his eyes.”
