According to online jail records, Chigvintsev was arrested under California Penal Code Section 273.5(a) (corporal injury to a spouse).
This section addresses traumatic injuries sustained by a current or former spouse, partner, or parent as a result of domestic violence.
This crime can be charged as a misdemeanor or a felony, and a felony is punishable by up to four years in prison.
The star was reportedly released on $25,000 (£19,000) bail on Thursday afternoon.
It is unclear whether Chigvintsev’s wife was involved in any way.
