Can Beterbiev end Bivol’s undefeated streak?
Longtime light heavyweight rivals Beterbiev and Bivol meet in the main event for a much-anticipated title fight.
“This is my last fight to prove myself,” Bivol, who is undefeated and has secured 12 of his 23 wins by knockout, said ahead of the fight.
“I wanted to make a name for myself in this sport by fighting the best boxers in the light heavyweight division.
“This was my goal when I got into professional boxing. I set a goal and I have to be the best. I have to be the best in the light heavyweight division.”
But Beterbiev, who postponed the match to recover from a knee injury, insists he is ready for this moment.
He promised, “I’m always 100% prepared.”
Beterbiev has knocked out every professional opponent he has faced, but said, “I don’t want to knock anyone out. If it happens, it happens.”
sky sportsBoxing expert Johnny Nelson believes Beterbiev can end Bivol’s undefeated streak.
“Beterbiev boxed Oleksandr Usyk in the amateurs and his fighting style was relentless,” he said. “He was determined. He wasn’t going to let it go and I think he’s going to do the same thing again.”
“If there was ever a perfect boxer or a perfect fighter in the dictionary, it would be one of these two fighters. They are the perfect fighters. No one will back down.
“Guys are going to try to box and outbox, guys are going to try to get through the iron. It’s going to be a really tough fight, but I’m going to pick Beterbiev because I think he’s the real deal. .”
Wardley vs Clarke 2 is set to steal the show.
Wardley is confident he deserved to win a decision in his thrilling first fight with Clarke earlier this year.
He wants to “finally settle the score” with Clark in their rematch this Saturday after a thumping draw in their first heavyweight clash.
“I don’t think it was a draw at all. I fought and pressed the action,” Wardley said.
“I want it to be over. I want it to be over. I want that chapter to move forward.”
Clarke feels equally malevolent. “I want to punch that guy in the face again,” he said. “This is the fight I wanted. A draw doesn’t suit me. You could tell I was devastated when the fight ended.
“When I look back, I keep seeing the mistakes I made. You can’t make mistakes. When the stakes are high, it’s about who can hold it together and cut out those mistakes.”
Former world champion Nelson is predicting an interesting fight. “Wardley was there, he was in the trenches,” he said. “As far as he’s concerned, Clark is under more pressure than he is.
“As far as Clark is concerned, their careers depend on it, because he thinks I can’t afford to lose to this guy.
“Wadley believes this fight will not last long and is trying to stop it.
“We saw that both fighters were very capable of stopping each other.”
Eubank Jr is also part of the larger event.
Eubank Jr returns from an impressive win over Liam Smith last year and is eyeing a future world title shot when he faces Kamil Szeremeta.
The Brighton star not only made his own mark in the sport, but also continued his family’s historic legacy with notable wins over the likes of Smith, James DeGale, Arthur Abraham, Matvey Korobov and Dmitrii Chudinov.
“I’ve had a year off. This is a solid opponent (25 wins, 2 losses). He’s only lost to two world champions,” Eubank Jr said.
“It’s the perfect fight for me to get in the ring, knock off the ring rust and knock out all these big names and world titles over the next 12 months.”
Whittaker is also on the stacked card.
Light heavyweight phenom and Olympic silver medalist Whittaker continues his rise against Liam Cameron.
Whittaker, who is 8-0(5), went viral after a clip of him showboating spectacularly during his stoppage win over Khalid Graydia on February 3 this year garnered millions of views and worldwide attention on social media. .
Nelson believes Whittaker will be Britain’s next boxing “superstar” and is excited for him.
“Ben Whittaker reminds me of Prince Naseem Hamed.”
“He has everything going for him. He talks. He walks. He talks. He can box, he can flash. He can unleash your imagination. You look and think, ‘He can I want to see what I get ‘hit’.
“If he can take this to a world level, Whittaker will be our next superstar.”
There are also three world title fights on the bill. IBF cruiserweight king Jai Opetaia will challenge European champion Jack Massey, while Skye Nicolson is set to fight Raven Chapman for the WBC featherweight title.
