A plane carrying 181 people crashed at an airport in South Korea, killing at least 28 people, Yonhap News reported.
The aircraft veered off the runway and crashed into the wall of Muan International Airport in the southwest, the Korean news agency reported.
It is reported that an accident occurred during landing when a Jeju Air plane carrying 175 passengers and 6 crew members was returning from Bangkok, Thailand.
Two people were found alive and rescue operations were still underway, a fire official told Reuters.
Airport officials said emergency responders were attempting to rescue people in the tail section of the aircraft.
Yonhap News reported that the passengers included 173 Koreans and two Thais.
The cause of the crash is not yet known, but local media reports that birds may have gotten caught in the plane’s systems, causing the crash.
Unconfirmed footage uploaded to social media shows the plane skidding off the runway, hitting a wall and then partially bursting into flames.
Another video shows black smoke rising into the sky.
Fire authorities said that one crew member and one passenger have been rescued so far, and 80 firefighters and more than 30 fire trucks have been deployed to the crash site.
