Atlantis Paradise Island has been appointed as the new general manager of The Reef.

Atlantis Paradise Island has appointed a new general manager for one of its flagship luxury hotels, continuing a series of leadership updates at the Bahamas resort while improving operations across its hotel portfolio.

The Reef is one of our favorite options in Atlantis, with residential style formats that are especially great for families.

The role also expanded to include food and beverage supervision to include both. the leaf and The CoveThese are two of the resort’s most luxurious accommodations.

This appointment puts Cumberbatch in charge of one of Atlantis’ most unique guest experiences, focusing on providing residential accommodation and luxury services within the wider resort ecosystem.

A key player in the Atlantis hotel mix

The Reef operates as a different type of accommodation within Atlantis.

The property is positioned as a residential tower with studio suites and multi-bedroom accommodations designed for extended stays and returning guests who want direct access to fully equipped kitchens, living spaces and resort amenities.

At The Reef, guests will be connected to the broader Atlantis experience, including Aquaventure, marine habitats and the resort’s extensive dining portfolio, while maintaining a more private, apartment-style environment.

The Food and Beverage Director at The Reef and The Cove serves two different guest profiles under one leadership structure. With its adult-oriented location and fine dining restaurants, The Cove operates differently from The Reef’s family-oriented residential approach.

This dual responsibility is expected to align service standards and operational consistency across both assets.

Cumberbatch’s path to the role

Cumberbatch joined Atlantis in 2024 as Vice President of Food and Beverage, a role that puts him in charge of one of the largest and most complex restaurant businesses in the Caribbean.

His experience in Atlantis is not new. Previous leadership roles have also been held at the resort, as well as positions across the region, including: SLS Baha Mar In Nassau The Windjammer Landing Villa Beach Resort In St. Lucia.

These roles spanned both large-scale resort operations and villa-based luxury properties, providing experience across a variety of guest models, from large-scale integrated resorts to more secluded residential-style accommodations.

The Reef’s operational focus

Reef locating requires a specific operational approach.

Guests often stay longer, use in-room kitchens, and balance private space with shared resort amenities. Services are expected to accommodate both independence and full resort access.

With the food and beverage division now included in his leadership scope for both The Reef and The Cove, greater alignment is expected between the dining experiences and guest flow at both properties.

This includes everything from in-room dining to restaurant access, as well as how guests can transition between The Reef’s quiet residential environment and the larger Atlantis spaces.

leadership perspective

This appointment builds internally on Atlantis’ continued focus on operational consistency across its hotel portfolio.

“Lenny’s operational expertise and extensive hospitality experience make him an outstanding leader, and we are confident he will be a valuable asset to The Reef at Atlantis Paradise Island,” said Audrey Oswell, President and Managing Director of Atlantis Paradise Island.

From Cumberbatch’s perspective, the role is focused on improving the experience at the hotel, which serves the already defined Atlantis customer base.

“The Reef offers all the makings of a luxurious, family-friendly and secluded getaway,” he said, noting the focus was on both first-time and returning visitors.

Meaning of Atlantis

This appointment reflects a broader emphasis on aligning leadership across Atlantis’ multi-asset structure.

Atlantis Paradise Island operates as a collection of unique hotels, each with its own unique location, guest profile and operational requirements, including The Royal, The Cove, The Coral, Harborside Resort and The Reef.

Positioning leadership across multiple assets, especially the parent items in the portfolio, has become an important part of maintaining the identity of each asset while maintaining consistency.

For The Reef, this includes maintaining a residential style offering while remaining fully integrated into the larger Atlantis environment.
