An Australian survey found that many people believe they got sick because of the last food they ate, and consumers are still washing raw poultry at home, a dangerous practice.
The Food Safety Information Council published its findings on June 7 to mark World Food Safety Day.
The survey found that 66% of Australians have experienced some form of food poisoning or gastroenteritis, with 51% blaming the last meal they ate. In fact, illness can be caused by items consumed days or weeks before symptoms appear.
