Baccarat Hotel and Residences to be Built in Maldives: Travel Weekly

The Maldives is set to see the opening of the Baccarat Hotel in 2027.

Baccarat Hotel & Residences Maldives is spread across five islands spread over 111 acres in South Malé Atoll. Baccarat’s parent company, SH Hotels & Resorts, calls it “a unique resort that will set a new standard for luxury in one of the world’s most desirable destinations.”

Baccarat Hotels & Resorts founder Barry Sternlicht said the Maldives resort would “fuse the timeless elegance and modern sophistication of the legendary 260-year-old crystal brand House of Baccarat with the quintessential Maldives paradise.”

“In creating this extraordinary retreat, we aimed to not just create a place to stay, but to curate an experience that celebrates the essence of luxury living against the breathtaking backdrop of the Maldives,” he added.

Located 30 minutes by boat from Velana International Airport, the resort is partly surrounded by its own shallow water lagoon and reef system. Plans include 50 hotel villas and 53 private residences. The hotel villas have one to three bedrooms and private pools.

The residences include six- and seven-bedroom mansions on secluded peninsulas. The eight- and nine-bedroom Private Islands are described as “intimate retreats surrounded by the beauty of the Maldives.”

Other facilities at the resort include a Baccarat-themed crystal garden, an open-air cinema, art gallery and event space, a nine-hole golf course, tennis courts, traditional Maldivian fishing tours, snorkeling, and a spa with hydrotherapy circuit and yoga pavilion.

The turtle rehabilitation center is one of the resort's eco-friendly initiatives.

Baccarat has a hotel in New York and projects in development in Miami, Florence, Dubai, Riyadh and Rome.
