What you need

Here are the ingredients you need to make this easy baked salmon recipe: See recipe card below for exact measurements.

  • salmon: The entire skin of wild salmon, such as sockeye or coho.
  • Fresh Lemon: Slice one to place on the bottom of the fish and cut the rest into wedges to place on top of the fish.
  • seasoning: For salt, pepper, seasoning
  • Fresh herbs: I used fresh dill, chives, and parsley. However, salmon is very versatile and almost any combination of herbs will work. Rosemary, thyme, and oregano would also be good.

How to Grill Salmon

Here are step-by-step instructions for making this easy baked salmon recipe. See printable instructions in the recipe card below.

  1. lemon: Cut one of the lemons into thin slices and the other into wedges. Place the lemon slices in the center of a large sheet pan lined with parchment paper, top with the parsley and drizzle with a teaspoon of olive oil.
  2. season: Rub the remaining oil all over the salmon fillets and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Place fish on top of lemon slices. You can bake it right away, or you can refrigerate it on a tray for a few hours and then bake it.
  3. baking: Bake the salmon in a preheated oven at 450F for 12 to 20 minutes, depending on the thickness of the fillets. The salmon is done when it is tender, flakes easily with a fork, and reaches an internal temperature of 145°F using an instant-read thermometer.
  4. Once done, top the salmon with fresh herbs and serve with lemon wedges.

strain

  • If you don’t have parchment paper, you can use foil for easy cleanup.
  • Brush the top with melted butter instead of olive oil.
  • For a sweeter profile, try it with Dijon mustard and honey.
  • If you have salmon fillets, it will take less time to cook them.

How long to bake salmon in the oven?

Cooking time for salmon depends on its size. For a 2-pound piece of fish, bake at 450° for 15 to 20 minutes.
