Bali Considers Halting Hotel Development: Travel Weekly

According to Indonesian state news agency Antara, the Bali provincial government is considering temporarily halting the construction of new hotels, villas, discos and beach clubs to address overtourism and overdevelopment.

Bali's acting governor Sang Made Mahendra Jaya said the moratorium could last up to two years and will be focused on popular tourist destinations such as Denpasar, Badung, Gianyar and Tabanan.

Other tourist destinations are also trying to curb overtourism by limiting new hotels and regulating vacation rentals. Amsterdam, for example, recently imposed strict rules on hotel construction in the city center, allowing new hotels only if other hotels close.
