Baller League is back for Season 2! Find out everything you need to know about how it works, what’s changed, and which celebrities are participating!
What is a Bowler League?
The Baller League originated in Germany, founded by entrepreneur Felix Starck and assisted by Mats Hummels and Lukas Podolski. This is a six-a-side indoor football competition, with its inaugural season in England taking place at the Copper Box Arena in London.
For the UK version, the influencer-led league, headlined by KSI, pits former Premier League players, futsal players and celebrities against each other in 12 teams for the title of the Bowlers’ League. Teams will battle for 11 weeks to determine the final four. The winner will be determined through a four-game playoff, followed by two semi-finals to determine the final.
The match will be played again on Monday 27 October, the final match day of the season ahead of the semi-finals scheduled to be played on 5 January.
Bowlers League Rules – How does it work?
Each team has 12 players selected in the Ballers League draft, and each half is 15 minutes long.
There are no corner kicks. If the ball falls behind the opposition three times, the attacking team is awarded a penalty (90s MLS style!). And for the last three minutes of the first half, another rule is added.
These ‘game changers’ include the 3-on-3 format, long-range goals scored behind the offside line being counted as doubles, and goalkeepers being unable to use their hands.
Matches will be played every Monday for 11 consecutive weeks, after which the top four teams in the league will compete in the semifinals and finals to be crowned champion. The first season saw Sharky’s SDS FC lift the trophy after a 4-3 win over MVP United in the final.
What’s new?
The second season returns with new faces as Chloe Kelly’s Clutch FC, Idris Elba’s Rukkas FC and Niko Omilana’s NDL FC join the competition.
There will also be another new face on the sidelines as former England striker and Sky Sports pundit Daniel Sturridge joins Micah Richards in leading Depotrio FC.
Former players John Terry, Jens Lehmann, Robert Pires, Alan Shearer and Ian Wright will also manage Miniminter, Tobi Brown, Sharky, AngryGinge and Maya alongside Como Women’s Alisha Lehmann. Back in the dugout with Jama.
