BBC on Luzon island as super typhoon approaches Philippines

The storm that hit the Philippines’ largest island has been upgraded to super typhoon status, with one region already experiencing “life-threatening conditions.”

Typhoon Fung Wong will bring sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour and heavy rain to several regions on Sunday, according to the Meteorological Agency Pagasa.

The BBC’s Jonathan Head is on the island of Luzon and said the region was bracing for an “absolutely devastating storm”.
