Travelers across the United States are facing unusually long lines at airports. Hundreds of Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents have quit, some without pay and others continuing to be disconnected from work due to the partial government shutdown.
BBC journalist Crystal Hayes reported the chaos as she returned home from her honeymoon, with waiting times lasting more than four hours. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents responded to the scene to control the crowd.
President Donald Trump said he would sign an executive order to “immediately” pay TSA agents who can provide temporary relief, but it is still unclear what authority the White House could invoke for such action. Late Thursday night, the U.S. Senate passed a partial funding bill to pay for TSA, but it still must pass in the House.
