
Trade through the Middle East’s largest port has been hit hard after Iran blocked the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important international shipping routes.
Oil prices rose to a record high of $120 (89.2 pounds) a barrel on Monday, and experts told the BBC they were concerned that food entering the region would fall significantly if the United States and Israel continue their war with Iran.
BBC correspondent Nick Beake reports from Dubai’s Jebel Ali port, where there has been gunfire since Iran responded to US-Israeli airstrikes by linking up with the US and attacking Gulf countries.
U.S. President Trump later warned through social media, “If Iran blocks the flow of crude oil within the strait, death, fire, and anger will rule Iran.”
