If your social media consists of watching #cleantok videos, you may have heard that this community suffered a loss this summer: the viral BISSELL Steam Shot. We lost this cleaning tool to a safety recall in July, and the cleaning community has been grieving ever since.

Some DIY cleaners still use this device, but it is not recommended due to the risk of burns. Then you may be wondering how to clean and sanitize your home. These four alternatives to the BISSELL Steam Shot can help you remove dirt and grime.
Why was the BISSELL Steam Shot discontinued?
In mid-July, BISSELL recalled 3.2 million Steam Shot appliances in the United States (and about 355,000 in Canada). Why? Because the steam cleaners can release hot water or steam in a way that can cause a burn hazard. In fact, more than 150 people have reported minor burns from the appliances.
To address this issue, BISSELL has asked customers to stop using their steamers immediately. The brand is also offering a $40 refund or $60 credit on BISSELL.com for each recalled product. Wondering if you qualify for a refund? You can check which models are being recalled.
If your device is eligible for a refund, BISSELL will ask you to take a few steps to get your money back. You’ll need to take a photo of your device and fill out an online form. But the hardest part (emotionally) is literally cutting the cord on your Steam Shot. At least that’s what I did.
After you submit everything, you will receive a confirmation email and will have to wait up to 6 weeks for your refund. Once you have your money, you can use it to purchase a replacement BISSELL Steam Shot.
Why is BISSELL Steam Shot so popular?
The BISSELL Steam Shot has quickly become an icon in the #cleantok space. It effectively harnesses the power of steam to clean your home in a way that's easy to do and satisfying to watch.
This device can clean almost any surface in your home, including hard-to-reach places and annoying grout stains. Because it uses heat and humidity, it dissolves and removes stains, so you don’t have to scrub as often. Plus, the heat sanitizes without the need for harsh products like bleach. Basically, you can think of the BISSELL Steam Shot as the Swiss Army Knife of cleaning products.
What is the best alternative to BISSELL Steam Shot?
People have been reluctant to give up this little steam cleaner because it is so effective and versatile. I know it is never easy to say goodbye, but keeping this device by your side is not worth the risk of burns, especially when there is a great BISSELL Steam Shot alternative.
