Lebanon experienced one of the deadliest days in recent history on Wednesday as widespread Israeli airstrikes unleashed fear and destruction in the country, just hours after a ceasefire was announced in Iran.
The attack, which occurred without warning in the middle of the day, killed more than 300 people, a third of them women, children and the elderly, according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry. Some attacks hit busy, densely populated areas, places that had not previously been targeted, or places where people thought they were safe.
Israel said it carried out more than 100 airstrikes in just 10 minutes against targets described as linked to the Iran-backed group Hezbollah.
