Bermuda Tourism Board unveils new mural

The Bermuda Tourism Board has unveiled a new mural in the historic town of St. George. The mural, created in a joint effort with Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCL), is part of a plan to integrate contemporary art into high-traffic areas. One of the goals of the Experience Development Program is to elevate the visitor experience while celebrating Bermuda’s rich history.

About the new mural

Local artist and creator Shanna Hollis has worked tirelessly to create stunning pieces that capture poignant elements of Bermuda’s history. It is a masterpiece that commemorates the history of St. George’s Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Moreover, it successfully captures the story of the island from the 16th century to the present. The work is now a fixture in the Market Wharf building in the heart of Kings Square.

To create the piece, Hollis worked with heritage experts Charlotte Andrews and Kristin White to incorporate historical elements. A vibrant, colorful pop art design that will appeal to residents and visitors of all ages. The mural is part of a strategic placemaking plan that ties together past, present and future. This plan will ensure that the historic city remains a treasure of its past and a dynamic and attractive space for the present.

This project supports the Innovation Pillar of the National Tourism Plan, which challenges us to think like visitors and create experiences that satisfy the interests of today’s travellers.”

The head of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings shared similar sentiments. “At Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, we are very proud of our ongoing partnership with Tourism Bermuda. Bermuda is a destination that holds a special place in our hearts and we are honored to support the creation of this incredible mural in the historic town of St. George.
