Best Natural Beard Oil Options

I have never grown a beard, but many of the men in my life have! Whether you’re a husband, dad, or brother, here are some great options for the best beard oil. It nourishes the skin and soothes irritation and inflammation while providing a nice scent.

They make great stocking stuffers or gifts. If you want to make your own, here is my DIY beard oil recipe.

What is beard oil and how do I use it?

A healthy beard starts with good grooming habits. And if you (or your significant other) haven’t shaved this November, you’re probably looking for a way to maintain that stubble. More and more men are using beard oil for stronger hair, healthier skin, and a great beard.

Regular soap is not made for beards and can dry out your skin. And while moisturizing your skin is important, applying lotion to your beard area can be awkward. So how do you care for your beard and the skin underneath it?

After washing your face with beard wash or soap, moisturize with beard oil. These contain specific carrier oils (often essential oils) to maintain both your beard and skin. Typically, all you need is to massage a few drops into your skin and beard. Long beards require a little more product.

Best Ingredients for Beard Oil

The popularity of beard oil has exploded recently, and you can find a variety of beard oils on the market. However, some products contain synthetic ingredients that can irritate the skin, cause beard itchiness, or have unknown long-term health effects. Other brands use artificial fragrances, which are known to cause problems such as hormonal imbalances, cancer, headaches, and skin irritation.

The best beard oils contain a blend of natural carrier oils (and sometimes essential oils). Ingredients like shea butter and coconut oil are good for the skin, but are too hard for liquid beard oil. You can buy unscented versions, but essential oils also offer some benefits for your hair and skin. Here are some good options and their features to look out for:

  • jojoba oil – Absorbs quickly by imitating the skin’s natural oils. Jojoba has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects and is rich in vitamins and minerals that help maintain healthy skin. It also contains antioxidants that prevent skin aging and damage.
  • Vitamin E Oil – A natural antioxidant that fights free radical damage. It also helps extend the shelf life of petroleum-based products.
  • argan oil – Rich in linoleic acid and vitamins A and E. Linoleic acid reduces inflammation and acne and protects the skin’s moisture barrier.
  • castor oil – Speeds up hair growth (a lot!), reduces inflammation, and soothes damaged skin. Contains fatty acids that help prevent hair loss. It moisturizes the skin and helps inhibit unhealthy bacteria that can cause breakouts. It may help increase hair shine and prevent split ends.
  • Meadowfoam Seed Oil – This luxurious sounding oil has a unique fatty acid profile that gives it a very long shelf life. It is an emollient that helps soften and smooth skin, prevent moisture loss, balance oil production and minimize blemishes.
  • essential oil – Popular beard oil options include sandalwood, peppermint, tea tree, cedar, rosemary, and lavender. It has various effects such as anti-inflammatory and antibacterial. It also promotes hair growth and keeps your skin healthy. If your skin is very sensitive or damaged, essential oils may further irritate it.

Why use natural beard oil?

Here are some ways a good beard growth oil can help improve your beard and skin health:

  • It can help with patchy beard hair by improving hair growth. They work on beards and bare skin to encourage healthy growth.
  • Helps keep long beards from getting tangled. For best results, follow up with a beard comb after application.
  • Makes rough beards softer.
  • Nourishes the skin under your beard, preventing dryness, itchiness, dandruff and rashes.
  • Strengthens hair follicles, reducing hair loss and breakage.

The best beard oil for men depends on what you are looking for. Of course, you want a product that provides a healthy beard, but natural ingredients are also important. Some beard oils, while effective, contain harsh ingredients that can irritate your skin or expose it to toxins and endocrine disruptors.

Don’t just stop at beard oil! A beard wash designed specifically for the beard area will help prevent dryness and irritation caused by regular soap. You can make your own natural moisturizing shampoo bar or purchase one here from Morocco Method.

Beard balm or beard butter nourish in much the same way, but these products are thicker. It also contains moisturizing ingredients such as cocoa butter, mango butter, and shea butter, which cannot be used in beard oil. Badger Balm sells a good beard balm conditioner here.
