“They’re not going to understand what happened or how it happened. They’re going to see the results,” Gallant said.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre described the conversation between Biden and Netanyahu as “direct and very productive.”

She told reporters that discussions about an Iran attack were continuing and that the United States would continue to provide flights for Americans still in Lebanon as long as Beirut’s main airport remained open.

Elsewhere in the Middle East, fighting between Hezbollah and Israel continues, with four people killed in an Israeli airstrike on a Lebanese village near the southern city of Sidon.

In the small Israeli town of Kiryat Shmona, a couple walking their dog was killed by a Hezbollah rocket fired from Lebanon.

They are the first Israeli civilians killed since cross-border fighting escalated dramatically 12 days ago.

Rockets also struck the Israeli port city of Haifa, injuring at least five people.

Israel says it has carried out more than 1,100 airstrikes since it began its ground invasion in southern Lebanon on September 30.

In an update shared Wednesday evening, the Israeli Air Force said it had used fighter jets, helicopters and remotely manned aircraft to strike Hezbollah sites and also struck 300 targets in northern Gaza as part of the battle for Jabalia.
